Injury forces another change to UFC 149
Posted by Mika Frankl
The plague of injuries changing match-ups for UFC events has became a huge ordeal over the last several months. Continuing in that that trend with UFC 149 has already suffering a change of main events from a Featherweight title bout between Jose Aldo vs Erick Koch to Urijah Faber vs Renan Barao. The new name added to the injured list is that of George Roop (12-10-1). Details of the injury have not been made.
Roop was expected to face Antonio Carvalho (13-5). Not to worry as a replacement has immediately been found in the shape of Daniel Pineda (17-8). Carvalho and Pineda both are coming off of losses and are very aware of how a losing streak is the fast way to find themselves back in regional shows.
Antonio Carvalho entered into the UFC on a three fight winning streak. Carvalho’s debut did not go so well dropping a bout by unanimous decision to Felipe Arantes at UFC 142. Carvalho is known for being a fight finisher having three victories via the submission and six via TKO/KO. Carvalho, a native Canadian, will have to home field advantage as UFC 149 is taking place in Calgary Alberta, Canada.
Daniel Pineda who is replacing the injured George Roop will be making his forth trip into the octagon has a record of (2-1). Pineda in his last UFC match up came up on the losing side of a hard fought unanimous decision to Mike Thomas Brown that saw Pindea take a beating early and mount a furious come back to fall short in the end. The loss to Brown put an end to a seven fight win streak that Pineda had been on since July 2010. Pineda is also known for being a fight finisher with all of his wins six by TKO/KO and eleven by Submission.
UFC 149 will be taking place on July 21, as the UFC returns to Canada for the first time in since UFC 140.
