Joe Lauzon Gets New Opponent For UFC On FOX 4

Posted By Mika Frankl

Originally set to happen at UFC on Fox 4 was a Lightweight Battle between Joe Lauzon (20-7) and Terry Etim (15-4). Both men coming off of losses were very excited to get back in the win column. That is what the hope was but as is now a reoccurring trend we have a injury that will force Terry Etim off the UFC on Fox 4 card. Not to worry a replacement has been found as Jamie Vanner (20-6-1,2nc) will step up on short notice. Varner is no stranger to stepping up on short notice having just won by TKO in his return to the UFC on short notice against Edson Barboza.

Joe Lauzon had been building momentum in 2011 with two consecutive wins over the likes of  Curt Warburton and Melvin Guillard. At UFC 144 Lauzon would lose to Anthony Pettis by vicious head kick that earned Pettis a Knockout Of The Night award and almost earned Pettis a number 1 contenders spot. With the loss now behind Lauzon he will be looking to get back on the winning path. Lauzon is known for being a game opponent and his submission abilities with 16 submission victories. Lauzon is also  a fans fighter only having seen the final bell once in a 27 fight career.

Varner as been on a  roller coaster since a 2010 year that saw him (0-3-1) and led to his release prior to the merging of WEC and the UFC. After that Varner  had even contemplated retirement but instead decided to keep at it showing his warrior spirit . Varner was able to win 3 of 4 on regional circuit. Varner having won 11 of 20 victories  by submission is very formidable on the ground. With both men being such great grapplers we could see the fight hit the ground very quickly or both men could nullify each other and have a striking battle.

UFC on Fox 4 takes place on August 4th in los Angeles at the Staples Center.
