Knuxx’s Mika Frankl headed down to Fit NHB in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico to talk with Bill Albrecht about facing Rod Wood at Welterweight on January 26, 2013 and challenging Sean Strickland for the KOTC Middleweight title on February 7, 2013.

MF: “Wild” Bill Albrecht getting a little wild, we’re here to do a pre-fight interview and it’s a double pre-fight interview, two fights in 11 days, how are you feeling Bill?

BA: I’m feeling great, training harder than ever. I’m looking forward to both of them. Rod Wood- it’s a grudge match with his team and then Sean Strickland- I love to be the bad guy when it comes to going into someone else home town an taking the win and he’s 10-0. It’s a great win for me. I’m really looking forward to it and on top of that KOTC gold, I’m winning.

MF: Is there any slight worry in the back of your head about the first fight to the second fight, the possibility of getting injured trying to stay healthy or do you just go out there to fight the fight?

BA: No man I just go out there and fight the fight. I’m sure Rob Wood will be tough; it’s just that I feel I’ll finish him fairly quickly. It’s just my opinion I’ve seen him fight kudos to him, but I’m a tough guy. I think that my skill will just overcome in that fight pretty quickly.

MF: Do you have some thoughts on that experience differential, you’re at over 30 fights and he has 4 fights total?

BA: Yeah, Yeah. He comes from a really good camp as well you know. He asked for me and it’s because he comes from a camp of a guy who beat me and so I’m sure with banter between guys especially someone who has beat somebody, he’s probably like oh yeah dude you know you could beat Bill or whatever blah blah blah, but that’s not the case. Sometimes you got to be careful what you wish for.

MF: So on a Thursday you fight at 170 lbs. and then on the following Saturday it’s at 185 lbs., any feelings on moving up a weight class?

BA: Um, you know what, it’s opportunity for KOTC gold and I love fighting for KOTC and being a world champion is a big plus. I’ve fought 205 and 185 before so being that this is for a championship at 85, it’s my first 85 championship. I’m excited about that you know I can cut to 170 fight this fight with Rod Wood, bulk up the day of the fight for that and then keep bulking up all the way up until well at least another week’s worth and then go fight Strickland at 85. It’s a win win for me.

MF: Coming off the loss to David Gomez, what did you look back on and say I need to improve on this or I need to change something?

BA: You know what I need to fight; I don’t know where my head was for that fight. I just don’t think I fought the fight I should have. I just need to bring it, you know what I mean. It’s just about bringing what I have to offer to the table instead of sitting back and seeing what he’s going to do or what he’s going to bring different, I just need employ my will first and that’s just what I’m going to do.
