Testing the Greens
The main reason why anyone would want to take a greens supplement is because of the power that comes from the combination of ingredients. It is long known that a plant-based diet can be beneficial, especially if those plants include alfalfa grass, barley grass, wheatgrass, algae and other anti-oxidant rich nutrients. These superfoods help rid the body of toxins and boost the immune system.
But to eat enough of them every day would take hours of work & prep time. That’s why they make these supplements.
So what do we look for in a Greens supplement? The primary thing we want to see is that it contains all of the main green power plants mentioned before. Most of the products on the market have all of these now so it really boils down to taste.
With all of these plants combined you’re bound to get a shake that tastes just like lawn clippings. That’s why we put most of the emphasis on taste. We want something that has a good flavor, goes down easy (without making us gag) and combines a natural flavor that doesn’t taste fake. But we know this is entirely subjective so we use a lot of anecdotal reviews to help us. If a lot of people like the taste, and we liked the taste, we’ll assume it’s good. Likewise the opposite is true.
Second to taste is the price/value ratio. We don’t want a product that is too expensive for each serving. We factor total cost into this price per serving (PPS). This includes shipping and tax (where applicable).
Finally you have to give weight to how it makes you feel. Does it make you feel lighter, toxin free, limber, think clearer and does it keep you sickness free while you’re taking it. Again, this is pretty subjective so we lean on others for this as well.
Our Findings & Rating
Our original tester tried Fighter Diet Greens a few years ago after he heard about them as a way to boost his immune system and get his “daily vitamins” without eating a wheelbarrow full of veggies. He was impressed to say the least. Here’s some of what he said in that review: “I have to admit, I have not been a big fan of the popularity of greens in general. I am well aware of all the health benefits of greens and other super foods in all their forms. My problem has mostly been with the taste. Whether in a capsule, a shot, a shake, or smoothie, I just could never get passed the taste of lawn clippings.”
“Now, that may have all been in my head, but nonetheless I was skeptical when I received Fighter Diet Greens in the mail for review. When I read on the website that, ‘Fighter Diet Greens is the most complete greens supplement there is. With over 70 different fruits, vegetables, and vitamin SUPERFOODS there simply isn’t anything more you can want! Our quality greens powder can help with digestion, detoxifying the body, as well as being anti-inflammatory by nature and packed full of probiotics. All this in addition to the fact that one serving of Fighter Diet Greens is the equivalent of 10 servings of vegetables!’ I had no doubt that this was a superior product, but that meant only one thing to me… this was going to be the worst tasting stuff ever!”
“However, as soon as I opened the container, I knew there was something very different about this stuff. It smelled great! I immediately had to try it. I did and it was fantastic. I couldn’t wait to pass it along to MMA fighters and coaches I know to get their feedback.”
“This might seem like a lot of emphasis on the taste, and it is, but the quality and performance speaks for itself.”
This glowing review help persuade a few of us to start taking it as well. We were equally impressed with the product as it did make you feel better and many of us did like the taste. A couple of us were convinced that we had less sickness over the few months that we used it. These are all great results. Then, admittedly our free product ran out and we were faced with buying the stuff.
The cost/benefit quickly dissipated when we had a harder and harder time finding it for under $1.50/serving. It seems that Fighter Diet quit selling it through Amazon so we had to source it from Bodybuilding.com. But their supply dried up as well. For this reason alone we no longer recommend this product.
In the time since we originally reviewed FD Greens and today there are several other products that have hit the market that have a per serving price of less than $1, taste just as good and, for a few of us, makes us feel exactly the same. Check out our “Best Greens Supplements” review for more information on the ones we prefer.
Who should get this?
Who should get the Greens? If you are an athlete who trains frequently or are on a special diet where your vegetable intake is lacking Greens are good for you. Also if you have deep pockets and don’t mind paying $45+ each month then Fighter Diet Greens are great.
Who should avoid it?
Someone who wants the benefits of superfoods but doesn’t have a lot of money.
