The World Boxing Council (WBC) announced that the undefeated champion Cecilia “First Lady” Braekhus (21-0-0) and Holly “The Preacher’s Daughter” Holm (32-2-3) will meet in the ring to fight for the Diamond Belt. WBC has called this fight “one of the best fights in the history of female boxing”.
Braekhus had presented the challenge to Holm after Holm’s last fight, a win over Diana Prazak in December. Holm accepted, and the fight is tentatively set for July in Las Vegas. Both women demand great respect in the ring. Braekhus has been the WBC welterweight champion since 2009, and has since made 10 consecutive title defenses. Braekhus also holds the titles of World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champ. Holm held the WBC welterweight belt in 2007 and 2008, and was also the former light welterweight and light middleweight title holder.
