In an unforeseen turn of events XFC Officials have announced that Lightweight champion “Notorious” Nick Newell (9-0) has been stripped of the title and released from the promotion, for refusing to defend the XFC title against Scott “Hot Sauce” Holtzman (4-0); at XFC 24: Collision Course on June 14.

Nick Newell won ther XFC Lightweight title at XFC 21 by submitting Eric Reynolds in the first round. Newell is been said to be seeking a fight with a UFC vet, in hopes of growing his national recognition.

Holtzman reacted on officialXFC.com- Its disappointing to hear that Nick Newell doesn’t feel I’m worthy enough to step into the cage with him. This is what happens when a fighter is surrounded by a bunch of “yes” men. He starts to believe his own hype. Don’t get this story twisted, Nick Newell isn’t concerned about the “name” he’s wanting to beat, he’s concerned about the name that was about to beat him. He’s gonna tell you all that this was about him wanting to beat a “UFC vet”, but its not. He knew a loss was coming and he’s playing damage control. He’s making sure he covers his ass. He’s making sure he can say, “yea I lost, but it was to a UFC vet”, instead of having to say he lost to Scott Holtzman.”

Scott Holtzman earned this title shot by going 4-0 in the XFC and in coming off a unanimous decision win over Jason Hicks.

Holtzman will still compete at XFC 24 now against an opponent to be named soon, for the vacant XFC Lightweight title.
