ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (April 4, 2013) – Promoter Lenny Fresquez, president of Fresquez Productions, announced today that his promotional company is making a donation to the Women’s Boxers of Kampala Project.

This worthy movement is spearheaded by Classic Women Warriors Boxing in order to raise funds to support poverty-stricken women boxers in Kampala in their quest to achieve their goal of qualifying for the Olympic Games.

Classic Women Warriors Boxing manages “Merciless” Mary McGee (20-1, 11 KOs), who has pledged a portion of her purse from her May 11 challenge against 14-time, three division world champion Holly “The Preachers Daughter” Holm (32-2-3, 9 KOs), headlining the Fresquez-presented “Mayhem” card, at Route 66 Casino Hotel in Albuquerque.

“As a strong advocate of women’s boxing for many, many years,” Fresquez said, “I was moved to learn of the plight women boxers in Kampala face. I applaud Classic Women Warriors Boxing for its lead role concerning this compelling story, as well as Mary McGee for donating part of her purse, and proudly join them by making a donation to support the Women’s Boxers of Kampala Project.”

Holm, an established Albuquerque sports icon, defends her International Boxing Association (IBA) and World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior welterweight titles in the 10-round main event against former NABC World lightweight titlist McGee, fighting out of Gary, Indiana.

The 31-year-old Holm (32-2-3, 9 KOs) – the reigning Queen of Boxing — has defeated a Who’s Who list of woman boxers from the 140 through 154-pound weight classes, including Anne Sophie Mathis, Christy Martin, Mary Jo Sanders, Mia St. John, Jane Couch, Duda Yankovich and Chevelle Hallback (twice).
