Former UFC interim Heavyweight Champion Shane Carwin (12-2) has posted on twitter, “Officially retired 2day 🙂 thank you to my family, friends and fans! #dreambig GOD BLESS!!! ”

Shane Carwin trained at the Grudge Training Center. Carwin was a heavy handed finisher who ends his career with 7 wins by KO’TKO and 5 by submission; never having a win go the distance or even get out of the first round.

At UFC 96 a 1st round TKO of Gabriel Gonzaga made Carwin a contender. At UFC 111 a KO of Frank Mir made Carwin the interim champion. Carwin’s first career loss came by submission to Brock Lesnar, at UFC 116 in a Heavyweight title unification bout. As it turns out Carwin’s last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Junior Dos Santos at UFC 131.

Carwin after taking time off due to neck and back injuries tried to make a comeback and was given the opportunity to coach TUF against Roy Nelson. The two coaches were expected to meet at the TUF 16 Finale, but a knee injury would force Carwin to with draw from the bout.

The end of Shane Carwin as a fighter is summed up by the injuries took their tole.

To Shane Carwin thanks for the great fights and best wishes on the future.
