It’s been a busy week for former Strikeforce women’s Featherweight champion Cristine “Cyborg” Santos (10-1-0, 1nc) not coming to a compromise with the UFC about her fighting future she asked for her release and it was granted. Invicta Fighting Championships have now signed Cristine Santos to a mulit-fight deal that starts at Invicta FC 5 with “Cyborg” facing American Top Teams Ediane Gomes (10-2).

Invicta FC had already announced that Gomes would be taking on British Columbia, Canada’s Julia “The Jewel” Budd (4-2) who instead will lock up with Queensland, Australia’s Fiona Muxlow (6-2)

Cristine “Cyborg” Santos lost the first fight of her pro career by submission and then went on to win 10 fights in a row, before defeating Hiroko Yamanaka, but failing the post-fight drug screen and subsequently being stripped of her title and having the bout changed to a no contest. Since then the company and division that Santos belongs to have ceased to exist. “Cyborg” has 8 wins by stoppage all by TKO/KO.

Ediane Gomes has won four fights in a row including defeating Katrine Alendal (SUB), Leslie Smith (UND), Katalina Malungahu (SUB), and Hiroko Yamanaka (UND). The 32 year old Gomes hails from Sao Paulo, Brazil has 8 wins by stoppage with 7 by submission.

The winner of the Santos vs. Gomes match is expected to Face Marloes Coenen at Invicta FC 6, presumably to crown the first ever IFC Featherweight champion.

Julia Budd has won 2 fights in a row over Elina Nilsson and Danielle West both by 1st round TKO, while Fiona Muxlow is coming off a loss to Marloes Coenen at the Dream 18 New Year’s show. The loss end a three fight win streak. Muxlow has 3 wins by submission while Budd has 3 win by TKO/KO.

Invicta FC 5 takes place on April 5, 2013, at Ameristar Casino and Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. Invitca Fc 5 will be headlined by a pair of title fights as Michelle Waterson challenges Jessica Penne for the IFC Atomweight title and Barb Honchak battle Vanessa Porto with the winner being crowned the inaugural IFC Flyweight champion.
