After the fight week press conference for Johnny Tapia Presents: The Next Chapter we spoke with main event fighter Joaquin Zamora about his opponent Bernardo Guereca…

Weigh-ins tomorrow, how you feeling Joaquin?

I’m feeling good, ready to go, ready for this weigh in more than anything. Fight night we’re going to get down.

Your taking on Bernardo Guereca, I talked to him a while ago he said, “I know Joaquin comes hard, it’s going to be a good fight. It’s going to come down to who can weigh -in more and impose their will.” Would you agree with those comments?

Well I mean he’s going to fight the way he fights and that’s his way, you know coming forward throwing a lot of over hand rights and lefts, he’s a switch hitter. He can go lefty and righty. I’m just going to use all my know-how and skill I got then go from there.

How much is the level of difficulty that it brings to you having to face a fighter that can switch up like that?

It doesn’t bother me, like I told the papers he can only throw the left or the right at one time anyway. So it doesn’t matter to me, I’ll just adjust to whatever he does and take it from there.

You had six weeks to prepare for this fight, could camp have went any better?

There have been some ups and downs with camp, but I’m not worried about it. It wasn’t a perfect camp, wasn’t 100% smooth camp, but I’m not worried about it. In the ring on fight night things may not go your way.

What’s your level of anxiousness like for this fight, because we had talked to you prior with all fall through and all the tribulations just to get here? You’re at the press conference what’s the excitement like?

I’m just ready to go. It’s fight week that’s when everything starts building up and will all let it out on Saturday.

What do the fans need to expect on Saturday?

They should expect like I said at the press conference. They should expect a dog fight. I’m going to do what I know how to do. I can box, I can slug, and I’ll do whatever it takes to win. Of course doing it in the memory of Johnny Tapia, he would have done the same thing.

What’s going to be the difference on Saturday night between you and Bernardo?

The want, the will to win, is going to be the difference

Joaquin would like to give a shout out to: All the veterans, all the other fighters on the card, all of Team Tapia, all of my people from Santa Fe, New Mexico. All the people coming up from southern New Mexico Socorro, Luna, and Catching County. Thank you to everyone coming up to support me.
