On Saturday August 18, 2012, WBA Super Welterweight Champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout came up to Albuquerque, NM from Las, Cruces, NM to do some media work, visit a hospital and get some sparring in. Prior to sparring at the Team Tapia gym we were able to get a interview with Austin.

We’re out here today at Team Tapia, you’ll be sparring with Hector Munoz, how did this come about?

“Well I’m trying to get into something for September, early October so I was in training any way. I had planned this whole little trip to Albuquerque to kind of check out the media up here. Albuquerque always shows love I think I should come up to the North say hello to my people every once in a while. So we had a whole like media tour and you know my Finance Sheri, she put it together so I could get some sparring while I’m up here and it just so happen you know Hector and Joaquin said yes next thing you know we got a lot of people here it’s tight.”

For New Mexico it’s all love all across the state, we’re glad to have you here. We have heard rumors a couple weeks back about a fight with Roberto Garcia, is that still potentially in the works, is he stills someone you want to get in the ring with?

“Yeah, it’s definitely a potential fight that could happen. I’m trying to fight somebody that’s going to give my career leaps. Roberto Garcia I can help me push forward but it’s not quite the leap I want, but I’d rather fight anybody than nobody so its definitely still a possibility, I’m trying to get another belt. So were talking with IBF and WBO champion and of course the WBC guys busy on the 15th, so everybody we want to fight is pretty much busy. Hopefully you know. If it’s Roberto Garcia that answers the call then, god bless him.”

Is there going to be a certain date where it gets up to that you don’t have a fight were you’re going to be like okay I need to get in there next guy say yes let do it?

“I’m almost at that point now , it feels like I don’t want to wait another six months eight months, I feel like there’s no reason I shouldn’t be fighting. I think it’s coming up you know I don’t want to wait till December.”

Without having a fight, you’re kind of on down time. You don’t look like it though. Thank you.” How do you stay consistent and keep the training up?

“I’ve kind of been easing into training camp; I don’t want to just have it hit it right away with hard stuff. I try to stay in the gym at least three to four times a week and make sure I get a run the same. I like to do other things to like long boarding, or hiking, I play basketball, my kids help keep me in shape cause their playing football and doing thing like that. Just staying active.”

What would be the most non-traditional form of exercise you get into that helps you with your boxing?

“I would say probably the long boarding, snowboarding, mountain climbing we try to go up to the peak in the mornings and it hard.”

25-0, how have you managed to stay so consistent throughout your career?

“Hard work really whatever you want you’re going to have to work hard to get hit. That one thing I work hard for every fight and I don’t take people lightly. If I have an off night I let my wind and shape get me through the fight. My faith I believe god has me here for a reason. I know if I put forth my full effort, my best effort I will come out victorious.”
